NYFW FYI

New York Fashion Week is just about ready to wrap — but in case you haven’t been glued to your Instagram and Twitter following the Fall 2014 collections like us, we rounded up the nine things you need to know about this season of shows.
-
Rodarte paid tribute to ‘Star Wars’

Rodarte sisters borrowed prints of “Star Wars’’ characters for a handful of gowns from their collection and it was so cute. May the force be with you guys, seriously.

Shearling is the new fur

J.Crew showed clutches, Alexander Wang featured extremely luxe menswear-inspired coats, Altuzarra made patchwork pieces made of fluff dyed neon: In the world of warm fuzzies, shearling is the new king.
-
There was a streaker at Prabal Gurung

He ran onto the Prabal Gurung runway mid-show and dropped down on one knee in front of a model. He was wearing an animal-face-print thong, a crown, and penny loafers with tube socks. He was promptly escorted out by security. And no, this was not a proposal.
According to The New York Times: “The word after the show was that the streaker was Vitaly Sediuk, the same person who disrupted the Grammy Awards last year, when Adele was about to collect an award, and then grabbed Bradley Cooper in what the press called a ‘crotch embrace’ on the Screen Actors Guild red carpet last month. He apparently got into the show with a Ukrainian press pass.’’
-
Delpozo is our one to watch

After dressing the always impeccable Kiernan Shipka for the 2013 Emmys, Delpozo’s red carpet ready gowns and frocks were set to take the New York fashion crowd by storm. The sweet but chic collection under the helm of creative director Josep Font was met with rave reviews. Women’s Wear Daily wrote, “Font’s creations make you dream, and that’s what fashion should be all about.’’
-
Public School provided a solid education

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winners Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne were also the buzz of the season, their menswear collection enticing every bold-faced somebody in the industry to the front row of their first show.
-
Fashion show presentations have become performance art

Dannijo had boxing ballerinas, Degen had live action knitters, and Alice + Olivia took over the McKittrick Hotel, the home of Sleep No More, to create a fairy tale-inspired fantasy land — competing with some of the big name runway shows of the season, presentations are pulling out all the stops to make their showcase an affair to remember.
-
Opening Ceremony’s sweet factory

However, giving presentations a run for their money: Opening Ceremony built the runway for their Belgian waffle-inspired Fall 2014 collection alongside a wall made of real chocolate. (It was supposed to be another Belgium reference.) Which led to many an editor’s question: “Can we eat it?’’ Which led to our own: “Why would you want to?’’ (Note: Some people did. And that’s disgusting.)

The entire Beckham clan came to Victoria’s show

David Beckham and all of his wee ones showed up for mother Victoria Beckham’s fall runway show. Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper all sat in the front row with their father, snapped selfies, and basked surrounding attendees in their genetic jackpot of good looks. Oh, the collection was great, BTW.
