3 things to know about the ‘Harry Potter’ fan convention LeakyCon
The magic comes to Boston on Friday.
Don’t be alarmed if you see an increased number of Seaport District passersby donning cloaks, towing brooms, and waving wands this weekend — it’s only LeakyCon making its mark. The “Harry Potter” fan convention, which started in Boston ten years ago, will take place between Friday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center. The events provide “Potter” fans of all houses with three days of panels, performances, and programs, plus chances to snag lots of merchandise. Read on for three things to know about the celebration of the wizarding world.
There’s an event for everyone.
This convention gives fans the opportunity to delve deep into the series and its surrounding projects, meaning you can attend a discussion about the musical “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” and a panel that asks “Are the Unforgivable Curses Unforgivable?” The programming examines the Harry Potter canon in “Ridiculous Harry Potter Fan Theories That Ended Up Being True,” questions the mechanics of the wizarding world in “Magical Laws and How to Found Them,” dissects elements of the films in “Fantastic Scores and Who Conducts Them,” and even has panels surrounding fandom itself, such as “Fandom Fatigue: What Is It and How Do We Deal With It?”

You’ll have the chance to meet a few stars of the wizarding world.
LeakyCon will bring out a selection of stars from the “Harry Potter” and “Fantastic Beasts” films for speaking sessions as well as autograph and photo opportunities (which require an additional ticket). These stars include Louis Cordice (Blaise Zabini), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley), Stanislav Yanevski (Viktor Krum), and Luke Youngblood (Lee Jordan).
As an added bonus, you can kick off the fun a day early on a LeakyCon day trip to Salem.
In a state with witch history that rivals that of Hogwarts, it only seems appropriate to trek north for a visit to Salem and get to know some of your fellow Potterheads along the way. For $80, the trip includes round-trip transportation between the Seaport Hotel and Salem, entry to the Salem Witch Museum, a suggested itinerary, a commemorative group photo, a photo proctor sleeve, and an exclusive badge ribbon.
