Hannibal Buress at The Wilbur

The stand-up comedian has made a name for himself as a writer on 30 Rock, a regular on The Eric Andre Show, and Lincoln on the Comedy Central show Broad City. He’ll stop by the Wilbur to tell some jokes for the second straight night on Thursday. (Thursday, August 10 at 7 p.m.; The Wilbur; $39; all ages)

Alterna-Tease Neo-Burlesque Festival

Traditional burlesque is so roaring 20s—come see how burlesque is done is the 21st century. Alterna-Tease takes burlesque and aims to stretch its definition to the very limit. It will even feature something called the “weirdo pageant.” (Thursday, August 11 at 8 p.m. to Saturday, August 13 at 12 p.m.; Oberon; $20-$30; 18+)

Boston Comic Con

The region’s biggest comic book convention is hitting town all weekend long and bringing stars like Star Trek’s William Shatner, The X-Files’s Gillian Anderson, Gotham’s Ben McKenzie, The Flash’s Robbie Amell with it. Get your cosplay ready, folks. (Friday, August 12 at 12 p.m. to Sunday, August 12 at 10 a.m.; Seaport World Trade Center; $30-$995; all ages)

Jaws in 35mm

The New England horror classic is showing on the big screen at various times throughout the weekend at the Somerville Theatre. (Friday, August 12 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, August 13 at 2 p.m., 5 p.m., and 8 p.m.; Sunday, August 12 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Somerville Theatre; $10; all ages)

Pokemon Go Bar Crawl

If you’re an avid Pokemon Go player, chances are you’re spending most of your weekend days walking all over the place—so you might as well walk from bar to bar and drink with fellow trainers while you catch ‘em all. (Saturday, August 13 at 12 p.m.; starts at The Lansdowne Pub; $20 for ticket and T-shirt; 21+)

Jamaica Plain Improv Festival

Hopefully you’ve saved some laughs for the end of the summer because this 12-hour comedy marathon is fueled by giggles. Local and national improv groups will roll through Jamaica Plain to deliver shenanigans, knee-slappers, and all other sorts of humorous experiences. (Saturday, August 13 at 12 p.m.; The Riot Theater; $20; all ages)

Boston Contemporary Dance Festival

Do you know how to Dougie, Cat Daddy, Whip, or Nae Nae? Those are all “contemporary” dances that probably won’t be featured at the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival. National performers and choreographers will flock to BU’s Dance Theater to show Boston what this art form looks like. (Saturday, August 13 at 2 p.m.; Boston University Dance Theater; $30; all ages)

Ignite! Festival

Loads of food vendors are coming to Somerville so you can chow down on the best of the best global street food. This year you’ll find area favorites like Gracie’s Ice Cream, India Palace, Cantina La Mexicana, Machu Picchu, and more. Plus, check out food demos, belly dancing, taiko drumming, a magician, and other family-friendly activities. (Saturday, August 13 at 6 p.m.; Union Square, Somerville; suggested $1 donation; all ages)

Chinatown’s August Moon Festival

One of Chinatown’s biggest festivals of the year will feature dancing, gifts, crafts, and so much food at Phillips Square. Two stages will also be set up for performances from musicians, martial artists, and more. (Sunday, August 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; between Harrison Avenue and Beach Street; free; all ages)

The Bae-Ve Boston

Boston’s monthly day party The Wave teams up with a creative collective of women called Bae Worldwide to bring production duo Mikoteau and DJ Ohso to the Middlesex for their final dance party of the summer. (Sunday, August 14 at 4:30 p.m.; Middlesex Lounge; $10-$15; 21+)
