Boston is going to host the World Figure Skating Championships for the first time ever

In the competition’s 130-year history. Which is ironic, you know, considering our wintry reputation.

Ice skaters are coming to Boston, and we don’t mean to the Frog Pond. About 200 of the world’s greatest figure skaters will take to the ice at the TD Garden this spring for the 2016 World Figure Skating Championships, Boston magazine reports.

This is the first year in the competition’s 130-year history that Boston is hosting the event, according to the World Figure Skating Championships. The skaters going for gold will represent more than 30 countries; Gracie Gold—born in Newton before she moved to Springfield, Missouri—Jason Brown, Ashley Wagner, and World Silver medalists Madison Chock and Evan Bates will represent the U.S., according to Boston.
