FreshFlix Short Film Competition The fifth annual festival features six short films, including one about Providence’s own 20-piece punk brass band What Cheer? Brigade. (Thursday, November 5 at 7 p.m.; Somerville Theatre; $14-$16; all ages)
Legally Blonde the Musical at Harvard Law What better place to see Elle Woods take on Harvard Law than at the real Harvard Law School? The show was put together by students from HLS, Harvard University, Berklee College of Music, and the Boston Conservatory. (Thursday, November 5 through Sunday, November 8; 8 p.m. on weekdays, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on weekends; $15-$45)
Spotlight Opens In 2001, a group of Boston Globe reporters broke a sex abuse scandal within the Catholic Church wide open. Now, several Hollywood stars portray those Globe reporters in a critically-acclaimed film called Spotlight. (Opens in theaters Friday, November 6)
