Aaron Carter Wants You to Pay $400 to See But Not Hear Him

I know what you’re thinking. Just like everyone in the entire world, you literally cannot wait to see Aaron Carter when he comes to Boston next week as part of his world tour. And just like everyone in the entire world, you’re totally willing to pay $400 to meet him before the show. Well, my friends, Carter has you covered.

What will you get for that $400? A Diamond VIP Upgrade, the best of the three upgrade packages on offer, which includes a VIP line bypass, a VIP Gift (we don’t know what it is, but it’ll be shipped to your house!), a meet and greet on Carter’s bus, a live shoutout during the concert, a bunch of merch (including a signed Polaroid!), and a post-show meet and greet, which is presumably different from the pre-show meet and greet.

What does the Diamond VIP Upgrade not get you? Into the show to hear your live shoutout. That’s right: The $400 that you just paid does not include actual entry into the show. For that you’ll need a ticket, purchased separately for $22.

The former teenage heartthrob, who famously told us how he beat Shaq, will play the Brighton Music Hall this Sunday, the Allston venue with a capacity of 476. There has never been more than a five-minute line outside of the venue, but getting to bypass that line as a VIP must feel so sweet.

The problem here is that if an artist doesn’t have 500 fans in a city, it’s unlikely that they have any that will pay hundreds of dollars for a meet and greet and some merch. These are the kinds of moneymaking techniques we expect of Bon Jovi or Metallica, bands that are going to sell out stadiums. But then again, did we really expect any better from the guy who still isn’t over kissing Hilary Duff as a 13-year-old? (Let it go, Carter, let it go.)

TMZ reported earlier this year that Carter had finally settled a million-dollar tax bill with the IRS, so perhaps he’s hoping for some wealthy Boston benefactors. But seeing as the vast majority of his fans are in their early twenties, it’s unlikely that there are many millionaires among them. I’ll just leave these here:

Now if you’re a dedicated Carter fan but find $400 a bit steep, never fear. For the low price of just $150, you can get the Platinum VIP Upgrade which includes the merch, the soundcheck party, and the meet and greet. (But not, of course, the ticket.) Different websites are offering differing reports on whether the Platinum VIP Upgrade includes the VIP line bypass.

Are the VIP gift and a bus tour really worth the $250 difference between the diamond and platinum levels? Probably? But once again, fear not! The Platinum VIP Upgrade includes entry to a competition where the prize is a Diamond VIP Upgrade. Who knew being a VIP was so confusing.

Is $150 still too steep? Get the Gold VIP Upgrade for $85 and you’ll receive everything from the Platinum level minus the meet and greet. I can’t imagine that there are many of these tickets left by now.

Well, maybe there are. Despite constant pushing of the VIP packages on Twitter, the upgrades for the next two shows, in Amityville and Philly, are now all half price.
