“SNL” returned to the air for the 167h episode of its 51st season on Saturday, April 11, with Colman Domingo as host and Anitta as musical guest.
Domingo was hosting “SNL” for the first time, and at 56 years old, he’s one of the oldest first-timers in recent memory. The theater actor first crossed over into television in a significant way in his 40s, breaking through with “Fear of the Walking Dead” and especially HBO’s “Euphoria,” which returns for a third season this Sunday on HBO. On the topic of timely projects, you’ll also be able to see Domingo on the big screen in two weeks as Joe Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael.”
Also making her first “SNL” appearance was Brazilian singer Anitta, who first broke through in the U.S. after a decade of success in her home country with her 2022 album “Versions of Me.” Fans got an early look at two singles from her new album, “Equilibrium,” which comes out April 16.
Following Domingo’s episode “SNL” will be on a break for a few weeks. The 51st season wraps up in May, with Olivia Rodrigo pulling double duty as host and musical guest on May 2, Matt Damon and Noah Kahan giving us a double dose of New England on May 9, and Will Ferrell hosting the May 16 finale with Paul McCartney as musical guest.
