Ryan Coogler’s genre-spanning vampire epic “Sinners” made history at the nominations for the 2026 Oscars on Thursday, leading all films with 16 nominations.
Voters for the 98th Academy Awards pushed “Sinners” into uncharted territory with its 16 nods, besting the previous record of 14 nominations held by “All About Eve,” “Titanic,” and “La La Land.”
AMPAS voters honored “Sinners” in the marquee categories of Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. The film also received acting nods for Michael B. Jordan (Best Actor), Wunmi Mosaku (Best Supporting Actress), and Delroy Lindo (Best Supporting Actor), and a nomination for Best Casting, a new category introduced this year.
Right behind “Sinners” was Paul Thomas Anderson’s decades-spanning revolutionary film “One Battle After Another,” with 13 nominations. Along with Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay, “One Battle” earned nods for four of its actors — Leonardo DiCaprio (Best Actor), Teyana Taylor (Best Supporting Actress), Benicio del Toro (Best Supporting Actor), and Sean Penn (Best Supporting Actor).
The 2026 Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. ET in a ceremony hosted by Brookline native Conan O’Brien.
