“SNL” returned to the air for the eighth episode of its 51st season on Saturday, Dec. 13, with actor Josh O’Connor serving as host and Lily Allen performing as musical guest.

O’Connor, making his “SNL” debut, has been everywhere this year. Most recently, he appeared as the lead role in “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the third entry in Rian Johnson’s whodunnit franchise, stealing the show from Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc. This year alone, he’s appeared in four films — including the Framingham-set heist film “The Mastermind” — but Anglophiles still probably know him best for his role as Prince Charles on “The Crown.”

Speaking of Brits, English singer-songwriter Lily Allen made her second musical guest appearance on the show — her first since 2007. Allen is back in the news for her deeply personal new album “West End Girl,” with songs that are clearly inspired by her tumultuous relationship with “Stranger Things” actor David Harbour.
