After helping lead the U.S. men’s gymnastics team to its first medal in 16 years at the 2024 Olympics, Worcester native Stephen Nedoroscik — known to many simply as “pommel horse guy” — is staying in the spotlight.
Nedoroscik, 25, will be showing off his moves once more this fall when he participates in Season 33 of ABC’s long-running competition series “Dancing with the Stars.”
Nedoroscik is the first contestant ABC has announced for its fall 2024 “DWTS” lineup, ahead of the show’s Sept. 17 debut.
Nedoroscik made the “Dancing with the Stars” announcement in style, showing up on “Good Morning America” and performing a variation on his pommel horse routine on the morning show set.
Nedoroscik told host Robin Roberts that viewers can expect the same Olympian flair he brought to the pommel horse when he makes his debut on the dance floor.
“I want to bring some of that gymnastics,” Nedoroscik said. “Maybe a backflip or handstand. I want to have fun with it.”

Nedoroscik, who trained for the 2024 Olympics at Sterling Academy of Gymnastics in Worcester, began his gymnastics journey in 2003. After initially focusing on multiple gymnastics disciplines, Nedoroscik decided to become a pommel horse specialist after winning Junior Olympic Nationals in 2015 and 2016.
During the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Nedoroscik became an internet sensation thanks to his unassuming “Clark Kent” appearance and his deep relaxation techniques (which made him appear to be fast asleep) during the long wait for his turn on the pommel horse.
With his family and his girlfriend cheering him on, Nedoroscik captured an individual bronze in pommel horse and helping the U.S. men’s gymnastics team win a bronze, the team’s first medal since 2008.
Nedoroscik told “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos that he expects to perform a similar relaxation technique to help calm his nerves before performing on “Dancing with the Stars.”
“I do think so,” Nedoroscik said. “It’s kind of what I do to calm myself down. So I will probably be bringing that to the dance floor.”
You can watch Stephen Nedoroscik on the premiere episode of Season 33 of “Dancing with the Stars” on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney Plus. It will also be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
