The first teaser trailer for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hit the internet Thursday night, giving audiences a first look at the sequel to Tim Burton’s quirky 1988 classic partially filmed in Massachusetts last year.

Set to a slowed-down version of Harry Belafonte’s “Day O,” the trailer begins with a funeral scene, showing us that there are now three generations of Deetz women. Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) plays Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Lydia (Winona Ryder) and granddaughter of Delia (Catherine O’Hara).

Astrid, who appears to be around the same age Lydia was in the first film, ascends the stairs of the haunted Connecticut home to the attic, where she finds the model town that serves as the home of the nasty poltergeist Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton).

Though not seen in the trailer, other cast members for the “Beetlejuice” sequel, which hits theaters September 6, include Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”), Monica Bellucci (“Spectre”) as the poltergeist’s wife, and Willem Dafoe (“Spider-Man”) as a “police officer in the afterlife” and “former B movie action star.”

“Beetlejuice 2” filming locations

Production on “Beetlejuice 2” originally kicked off back in May 2023, shooting most of its scenes in Vermont. (That’s also where one of the film’s iconic sculptures was stolen in July.)

Crews began to set up in Melrose in July 2023, but were forced to shoot only brief footage without actors due to the dual Hollywood strikes.

Once the strikes ended, Burton and co. returned to Melrose in November to finish the final days of production.

Ortega, best known for playing Wednesday Addams on the Netflix series “Wednesday,” was seen wearing a purple and black striped dress and riding a bike along the street between houses that had been decked out with Halloween decorations.
