With mere days before the 2020 presidential election, “SNL” didn’t hold back its disdain for Donald Trump during its “Weekend Update” segment.
Anchor Colin Jost opened the sketch with a barrage of barbs at the president’s expense, blasting him for killing his own constituents and comparing Trump to serial killers Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy.
Jost’s roast started by sharing what he called Trump’s “winning message,” a video clip of Trump falsely claiming that doctors are inflating coronavirus numbers for financial gain.
“That’s our president, recently saved by doctors, saying doctors want more COVID for money,” Jost said as the clip ended. “Which makes me think Trump only survived COVID so he wouldn’t have to pay his doctors.”
Next, Jost took the president to task for abandoning supporters in the freezing cold at an Omaha, Nebraska rally this week.
“Unfortunately Trump’s gaslighting isn’t quite enough to keep you warm, because multiple Trump supporters who were stranded at a freezing cold rally in Nebraska were hospitalized with hypothermia,” Jost said. “I assume because Trump told them that jackets don’t work.”
Jost then directly accused the president of killing his supporters, citing a recent Stanford study that ties more than 30,000 COVID cases and 700 deaths directly to Trump rallies.
“That means he’s officially killed more people across the Midwest than Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy combined,” Jost said.
“Which is also sort of what Trump looks like,” he added, flashing a picture of Trump alongside a photoshopped composite of the two infamous serial killers.
Jost then finished the segment with a final parting shot at the president.
“In the end, I guess Trump was right, that he’s not a typical politician,” Jost said, “Since politicians don’t typically spend the last week of the election murdering their own voters.”
