Halloween feels different this year, as more people opt to stay away from large gatherings and with trick-or-treating reimagined by many towns and parents, in efforts to curb the spread of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A man in Winchester even built a candy cannon, to shoot treats from a long distance, in a socially-distanced delivery system. Ghoulish or silly, costumes, even if just worn for Instagram or a FaceTime call, show that the Halloween spirit in New England is still alive and well.

To celebrate a different kind of Halloween this year, we reminisced on some of the best, all-time looks of year’s past and asked Boston.com readers to submit their finest spooky season looks. They delivered. Here are 14, who turned heads with their getups.
