Ryan Reynolds’ summer weekends working in Boston have come to an end for now.
The “Deadpool” star wrapped up filming for “Free Guy,” the adventure-comedy that has been filming in Boston and other nearby municipalities since May.
Reynolds announced the news on Instagram, where he shared behind-the-scenes photos from the “Free Guy” set. Along with photos posing with co-stars like Newburyport native Joe Keery (“Stranger Things”), Lil Rel Howery (“Get Out”), and Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”), Reynolds shared shots of him attached to wires while performing a high-flying stunt in front of a green screen and being body-slammed by an unknown assailant.
“That’s it for me on #FreeGuy,” Reynolds wrote. “Holy s***, I love this movie. I want to flash-fry it and inject it straight into your eyeballs.”

In “Free Guy,” Reynolds plays a bank teller named Guy who discovers he’s a background character in an open world video game called “Free City.” Between daily car chases and bank robberies, Guy meets Molotov Girl (Comer), an expert player who causes Guy to reconsider his life and step out of the background.
Reynolds has spent time working in Massachusetts before, filming 2009 rom-com “The Proposal” with Sandra Bullock primarily on the North Shore and 2013’s “R.I.P.D” with Jeff Bridges in Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, and Raynham
Reynolds may be done with “Free Guy,” but there’s still a bit more work to be completed on the movie, which is set to hit theaters July 3, 2020. Principal photography is expected to continue in the Boston area through at least the end of the week.
