Writers leave ‘Magic Mike The Musical’ due to creative differences
The show is set to make its world premiere at the Emerson Colonial Theatre this November.
The writing team for “Magic Mike The Musical’’ has left the production due to “creative differences,’’ according to spokesman Adrian Bryan-Brown.
The departure resulted in the postponement of a workshop scheduled for this week. Nonetheless, the show is set to make its world premiere at the Emerson Colonial Theatre this November, with plans to head to Broadway afterward. Director Trip Cullman remains.
The musical serves as a prequel to the first “Magic Mike’’ movie (which starred Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer as male strippers), following a college-aged Mike Lane as he first discovers stripping. Tatum is co-producing the stage adaptation.
The former team included book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the “American Psycho’’ musical and TV’s “Riverdale’’), composer Tom Kitt and lyricist Brian Yorkey (the duo who scored “Next to Normal’’ and “If/Then’’).
The production hasn’t announced a new creative team.
