Club owner rips Pete Davidson after comedian ditches Connecticut show
The "Saturday Night Live" star reportedly didn't appreciate comments about his exes Ariana Grande and Kate Beckinsale.
Pete Davidson made some people in Connecticut angry on Monday night.
The comedian and “Saturday Night Live” cast member was scheduled to perform at the Stress Factory comedy club in Bridgeport, but never made it on stage. According to TMZ, Davidson told Stress Factory owner Vinnie Brand not to go out on stage to perform prior to Davidson’s set because Davidson travels with an opener. But Page Six reports that Brand not only took the stage, he also sarcastically asked the audience to avoid mention of Davidson’s famous exes, singer Ariana Grande and actress Kate Beckinsale. That upset Davidson so much that he left the club without performing.
In a video obtained by TMZ, Brand showed an Instagram video to the assembled audience of Davidson apologizing and explaining why he wouldn’t be doing the show, then ripped into the comedian.
“Pete Davidson, I didn’t disrespect you,” Brand said in the video. “Your security guy told me to say what I said. And if you’ve got [a] bad security guy, you should’ve fired your goddamn security guy. You s*** on everybody here.”
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, Brand said that he “would never do anything to disrespect” Davidson, and reiterated that he had been carrying out the wishes of Davidson’s security team by asking audience members not to videotape the set or heckle Davidson about Grande or Beckinsale.
“They wanted no phones, no one to yell out at Pete, no yelling out about Ariana Grande or Kate Beckinsale,” Brand told ET, adding that the club was in the process of refunding everyone’s money. “His advance team talked to me during the day and said the same thing. So, I went out before Pete came on, and laid down the law, saying, ‘If you say anything about Ariana or Kate, you’ll be asked to leave the room.'”
Brand and representatives for Davidson had not responded to requests for comment at the time of this article’s publication.
Davidson is scheduled to perform a sold-out charity show at the Wilbur Theatre with comedian John Mulaney on Monday.
