At least one projection estimates that as much as 30 percent of land in the city of Boston could be underwater by the end of the century thanks to rising sea levels.
If the first trailer for “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is any indication, the real threat the city faces is rising sea monsters, arriving next year.
In the first shot of the “King of the Monsters” trailer, released Saturday, a character played by Millie Bobby Brown (“Stranger Things”) stands on a roof as insane amounts of smoke (or smoke-like clouds) billow up behind her. In just a few seconds, the clouds engulf the Prudential Tower, the Citgo sign, and pretty much the rest of the Boston skyline.

It’s unclear how much of the movie is set here in the city, but Boston.com was able to confirm that a small amount of filming for “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” was done in Boston. But no matter how much, or how little, Boston is involved, at least we know that disaster films looking to wreak havoc on the Eastern Seaboard have discovered there’s a world beyond New York City and Washington, D.C.
