The newest trailer for the Boston-set action film “The Equalizer 2” hit YouTube this week, with Denzel Washington kicking butt and taking names all over the city.
In 2014’s “The Equalizer,” retired CIA Black Ops operative Robert McCall (Washington) tries living a quiet life in Boston and working at a hardware store, but ends up dispensing vigilante justice on Russian pimps, corrupt police, and anyone else exploiting the downtrodden. This time, McCall is employed in Boston as a Lyft driver, and once again he can’t fully escape his old ways.
In one scene, McCall is ordered to take a distressed woman home in his car by some scumbags living in a high-rise who seemingly sexually assaulted her and filmed it. Predictably, things do not end well for them.
In another scene, McCall is cleaning graffiti off of a brick wall. A young man walking by tells him he should let someone else — anybody else — clean the wall.
“I guess anybody could do it,” McCall says. “But nobody does.”
“The Equalizer 2” was shot in 2017 in Boston, including in the Downtown area and in the South End and Roxbury neighborhoods. In October, two teenagers were arraigned on charges of shooting security guards who were guarding the set of the film.
“The Equalizer 2” hits theaters July 20.
