Amy Poehler and her ‘Parks and Rec’ friends put the NRA on blast

"I would prefer you not use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda."

A co-creator and stars of “Parks and Recreation,” including Burlington native and actress/producer Amy Poehler, slammed the National Rifle Association of America for using a GIF from their show on Twitter.

On Wednesday night, the NRA’s official Twitter account tweeted a thank-you to spokeswoman Dana Loesch for “being the voice of over 5 Million #NRA members,” adding a GIF of Poehler’s “Parks” character, Leslie Knope, saying thank you.

This didn’t sit well with “Parks and Rec” co-creator Michael Schur.

“Hi, please take this down,” Schur tweeted early Thursday morning. “I would prefer you not use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda.”

In the same tweet, Schur shared a text message he said he had received from Poehler: “Also, Amy isn’t on twitter, but she texted me a message: ‘Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said f*** off?'”

Actor Nick Offerman, who played libertarian outdoorsman Ron Swanson on the show, had similarly harsh words for the NRA and spokeswoman Dana Loesch.

“.@NRA @DLoesch our good-hearted show and especially our Leslie Knope represent the opposite of your pro-slaughter agenda – take it down and also please eat s***.”

Adam Scott, who played Leslie Knope’s husband Ben Wyatt on the show, also chimed in: “Hey @nra please stay the f*** away from Leslie Knope.”
