Jimmy Kimmel turned 50 on Monday, and to celebrate, the staff on his show pulled out all the stops, bringing together a group of celebrities to read mean tweets about Kimmel and looping in J.J. Abrams to create a surprise movie trailer for a comic book Kimmel drew as a kid. With Ben Affleck already on the show to promote Justice League, the Cambridge native got to play lead hero Muscle Man. You can probably guess which Kimmel frenemy played the villain.
While Kimmel’s childhood comic heroes probably made sense to him as a kid, heroes like Super Duck (Zach Galifianakis) and Spire (Shaquille O’Neal) seem to have no discernible powers other than being able to fly (awkwardly) and hold a giant club, respectively.

Others in the trailer include Jon Hamm, Jennifer Aniston, Will Arnett, Ty Burrell, and Damon as the villainous Dr. Bolt.
As the heroes come to the realization that their superpowers aren’t so super (villainous sidekick Wanda Sykes is a box of bleach, for example), Damon gets in a dig in at Kimmel.
“We all suck,” Damon, as Dr. Bolt, says. “And you know why? Because we were created by a weird, sad kid, who later grew to be a weird, fat man.”
Back on the show, Affleck also discussed growing up with Damon, and revealed that when they were young, both auditioned and failed to land the role of Robin in one of Tim Burton’s early Batman films. (Neither 1989’s Batman nor 1992’s Batman Returns, the two Burton-directed Batman films, ultimately included a Robin character.)
Kimmel, obviously enthralled by any story involving Damon failing, revealed a minor spoiler about the recently released Thor: Ragnarok in the process of mocking Damon.
“That’s so sad though, in a way, that you went on to become Batman — not only didn’t he get to be Robin, he’s begging for little bit parts in Thor,” Kimmel said. “He’s like Loki Jr. in Thor.”
“Listen, this is an up-and-down business,” Affleck joked.
“And he is down, down, down,” Kimmel replied.
Affleck did not discuss the Harvey Weinstein scandal or allegations of sexual misconduct.
