Report: NY premiere of Louis C.K.’s new film canceled in advance of New York Times story
C.K.'s scheduled appearance on 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' has also reportedly been canceled.
The New York City premiere of comedian Louis C.K.’s new film, I Love You, Daddy, has been canceled, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A source told THR that a New York Times story on the Newton native will publish imminently, and the premiere was called off in case the Times‘s story is damaging. THR also reported that C.K.’s scheduled Friday appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been canceled.
I Love You, Daddy has generated controversy ever since its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The film’s plot concerns a successful TV producer (C.K.) whose 17-year-old daughter (Chloe Grace Moretz) begins dating a significantly older film director (John Malkovich).
The film, which C.K. wrote, directed, and produced, has drawn comparisons to Woody Allen’s 1979 film Manhattan, both in subject matter (both movies concern an older man’s relationship with a 17-year-old girl), and in style (both are shot in black and white and feature a full orchestral score).
C.K. defended the film’s content in an previously published interview with THR, saying, “We’re at the bleeding edge of ‘That’s not OK to do now.'” He also said he didn’t concern himself with the potential audience response during filming.
“You can’t think about the audience when you’re making the thing,” C.K. said. “If you do, you’re not giving them something that came out of your gut. You’ll be making something that you’re like, ‘Is this O.K. for you?'”
Representatives for C.K. did not immediately return a request for comment.
