When asked in an Associated Press interview about the recent surge of sexual harassment allegations in Hollywood, Ben Affleck said he was “looking at my own behavior” and that he wanted to make sure he was “part of the solution.” One way he plans to do that, Affleck told FOX 5’s entertainment reporter Kevin McCarthy in a separate interview, is by donating a portion of his future earnings to charity — specifically, money he stands to earn from previously working with Harvey Weinstein.

When McCarthy asked about Affleck’s friend and frequent collaborator Kevin Smith’s plan to donate his future residuals from Miramax and Weinstein Company films to charity, Affleck said he intended to do the same, adding that he would split his donations between Film Independent (FIND) and the Rape Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN).

“It’s funny that you mention that because once Kevin suggested that, I decided to do the same thing,” Affleck told McCarthy. “So any further residuals I get from a Miramax or a Weinstein movie will go either to FIND or to RAINN – one is Film Independent, and the other is a women’s organization.”

In regards to Weinstein, Affleck added: “I just didn’t want to cash any more checks from the guy.”

Affleck’s name has surfaced several times in the wake of the allegations against Weinstein, who helped launch the careers of Affleck and Matt Damon by executive producing Good Will Hunting. Actress Rose McGowan, whom The New York Times revealed reached a settlement with Weinstein after a hotel room incident in 1997, called Affleck a liar for claiming that he did not know about Weinstein’s behavior.

The same day, former MTV VJ Hilarie Burton tweeted that she “didn’t forget” Affleck grabbing her breast during a 2003 episode of TRL.

Affleck issued an apology to Burton, saying, “I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize,” but did not explicitly say what he was apologizing for.

Makeup artist and author Annamarie Tendler, who is married to comedian John Mulaney, tweeted on Oct. 11 that Affleck grabbed her butt at a Golden Globes party in 2014.
