LFO singer diagnosed with stage 4 cancer
Devin Lima, a member of the New Bedford pop group LFO, has been diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal cancer, according to a video posted by fellow LFO member Brad Fischetti.
On Oct. 18, Fischetti and Lima posted a video to the band’s YouTube page announcing that Lima needed surgery to remove his adrenal gland, which had swelled and was pushing against his other organs. A day later, Fischetti and Lima posted a short video following Lima’s surgery, in which Fischetti mentioned that Lima had to have a kidney removed, as well.
This past Monday, Fischetti posted another video, this time without Lima, announcing that Lima has primary adrenal cancer, and that doctors have put Lima on radiation, chemotherapy, and another long-term medication.
“Devin asked me to give you this update without him because, frankly, he’s just not feeling very well,” Fischetti said in the video. “But he asked me to send you his love and gratitude for all the love and prayers you guys have sent his way. He’s had a tough recovery. He had a few really difficult days in the hospital, but thankfully, he’s home now, resting and healing.”
LFO, which scored a platinum hit in 1999 with “Summer Girls,” was formed in 1995 in New Bedford. In 2010, founding member Rich Cronin passed away after a battle with leukemia. Earlier this year, Lima and Fischetti announced that they were re-forming LFO as a duo.
Fischetti said in Monday’s video that Lima was determined to fight the cancer and fulfill his dream of taking the stage again, but acknowledged that the news was not positive.
“I wish we had better news to share,” Fischetti said. “It’s devastating news. But at the same time, there’s nobody I know stronger than Devin Lima. No one has a stronger body, mind, or soul. And if anybody can defeat this, it’s Devin.”
