Matt Damon is very, very small in his newest trailer

America, prepare yourselves for mini Matt Damon.
The first trailer for the Cambridge native’s new film Downsizing hit YouTube early Tuesday morning, and while Damon and some of his co-stars are tiny, the laughs are not.
Damon plays Paul Safranek, an average man who decides to undergo a revolutionary new procedure to permanently shrink himself to 5 inches tall. While downsizing (as the procedure is known) is presented as a solution to overpopulation, Paul is sold on the process by an already-made-small friend named Dave (Jason Sudeikis).
“Downsizing is about saving yourself,” Dave tells Paul. “We live like kings. We’ve got the best houses, best restaurants. Cheesecake Factory, I’ve got three of ’em.”
Suddenly, things that were once out of reach for Paul are very accessible. His $52,000 in savings is the equivalent of $12.5 million in Leisure Land, and he’s able to buy himself a mansion.
While the trailer keeps most plot points under wraps, one suspects that Leisure Land will not be the dream Paul assumed it to be — in one scene, tiny Paul is presented with giant divorce papers, presumably from his wife (Kristen Wiig).
Directed by Alexander Payne (The Descendants, Sideways), Downsizing is set to hit the big screen Dec. 22.
