Allison Janney, fictional press secretary, ‘feels sorry’ for real Press Secretary Sean Spicer
Allison Janney might not have been an actual press secretary – she played White House Press Secretary C.J. Cregg in ‘The West Wing’ – but she still knows a thing or two about the difficulty of the job.
The Boston-born actress offered her thoughts up on White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer during an interview with late night host Stephen Colbert Monday night. Though Janney admitted she has “some problems” with the current administration, she expressed sympathy for Spicer, who has frequently made headlines for his political gaffes and controversial statements.
“I feel sorry for Mr. Spicer,” Janney said. “He’s remarkable because he always seems to be in a state of fight and flight at the same time.”
Janney also noted that her ‘West Wing’ character had an advantage over Rhode Island native Spicer, in the form of showrunner Aaron Sorkin.
“I, as C.J., I had Aaron Sorkin in my cockpit,” Janney said, “and [Spicer] has someone I’m not sure knows how to fly a plane–or a cockpit.”
