Natalie Portman won’t be at the Oscars tonight

Natalie Portman won’t attend tonight’s Academy Awards ceremony due to her pregnancy, People reports.

The Harvard graduate is up for the prestigious Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in the biopic Jackie. The film is also nominated for Best Original Score and Best Costume Design.

“Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards,” Portman told People in a statement. “I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends.”

Portman is expecting a child with with her French choreographer husband, Benjamin Millepied. This will be the couple’s second child. They also have a son, 5-year-old Aleph, with whom Portman was pregnant when she accepted the Best Actress Oscar for her part in Black Swan back in 2011.

Back in January, Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel joked with Portman on his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, that he could deliver her baby at the Academy Awards ceremony if necessary.

“Of course, we don’t want this to happen,” Kimmel said, “but if you should go into labor during the Oscar broadcast, I want you to know that as host, I am prepared to deliver the child.”
