Jimmy Kimmel chatted with Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola on his show Monday, but before he did, he welcomed another Patriots star, quarterback Tom Brady. Only instead of Brady, actor Matt Damon walked out, wearing Brady’s full Patriots uniform.
The gag was part of Damon and Kimmel’s long-running faux feud, in which Kimmel refuses to let Damon appear in studio as a guest.
“I won the Super Bowl, and I won your stupid show!” Damon yelled after Kimmel forced him to take his helmet off and “reveal” himself.
Kimmel insisted that because Damon had not actually sat down on the couch, he wasn’t technically a guest, but that didn’t stop the actor from celebrating backstage with a champagne shower and a mock postgame interview with NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen.
“It’s just so incredible. I’ve worked so hard for this,” Damon said. “All of the years of just—I think it’s 14 years—of being in the dressing room, thinking I’m gonna get out, and you know, we never gave up.
“First of all, I want to thank God,” Damon continued,” because he hates Jimmy so much that he just made all of this happen.”
