Five months after standing in the spotlight at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Needham native Aly Raisman is trading in her leotard for a two-piece.
Raisman and fellow gold-winning Olympic gymnastics teammate Simone Biles will appear in the 2017 edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, expected to hit newsstands in February.

“Aly and Simone represent all that is beautiful and strong and inspiring in women today,” said SI Swimsuit editor MJ Day in an article announcing the news. “Women that are not only elite athletes, that are captivating and impressive in their own professional accomplishments (lots and lots of Olympic gold medals between them), but strikingly sexy and beautiful in front of photographer James Macari’s lens.”
Raisman previously posed nude for ESPN the Magazine‘s Body Issue, and despite being “literally fully naked” for that shoot, she said she felt comfortable.
“I did a lot of gymnastics poses, so that’s why it felt so natural for me,” Raisman told Boston.com at the time. “It didn’t feel weird. I kind of forgot I was naked and felt like I was just at the gym.”
