Working on the set of the star-studded, all-female Ocean’s 11 reboot, Ocean’s Eight, actress Mindy Kaling said she’s become invisible to paparazzi.
The Cambridge native told Late Night host Seth Meyers on Wednesday’s episode that with a cast that includes Rihanna, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, and Cate Blanchett, photographers are always nearby.
“With that group of women, I have never felt so unfamous in my life,” Kaling said. “Like, I thought I was pretty cool. I have my own show. And there, people think I’m Sandra Bullock’s assistant. They’re like, ‘Get out of my way, we need to bring Sandra her Matcha tea.’”
But really, the comedian and writer pointed out that the paparazzi is there for one person only: Rihanna. Kaling told Meyers that after recently shooting a scene for the film with the other seven stars of the movie, she headed outside while speaking to Hathaway, Rihanna close behind.
“There was like a sea of paparazzi taking photos and everything like that, and I was feeling kind of feeling cool and famous,” Kaling said. “And then Rihanna took a left to her trailer, which was like not in the same direction that me and Anne were going. And the paparazzi left so quickly. It was like a desert.”
