After a gold-medal courtship this summer, Needham native Aly Raisman and an NFL tight end are officially a couple.Raisman confirmed to People that she and former Oakland Raiders tight end Colton Underwood, now a free agent, are dating after the duo appeared together on the red carpet for the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year ceremony Monday night.Back in August, days before the conclusion of the Rio Olympics, Underwood wooed Raisman in a video posted on Yahoo! Sports, letting her know that if she was “ever in San Jose and want[ed] to go on a double-date with me and Andrew and Shawn, let me know.” (At the time, Underwood was a teammate of long snapper Andrew East, who is married to gold medal-winning gymnast Shawn Johnson.)Raisman told People that the couple has “kept it quiet,” but have been dating since August.“We happened to both be in Denver at the same time,” she told the publication. “I was there for less than 12 hours, he was flying in for just a few days. it just ended up working perfectly.”

Raisman said Underwood even drove 90 minutes each way for their second and third dates, and that she’ll be spending the holidays with his family, whom she’s already met.Underwood wasn’t the only tight end who tweeted his support for Raisman this summer. The Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski congratulated Raisman and the Final Five “for all your accomplishments in Rio.” But when asked by Yahoo! Sports in August about the prospect of dating Gronk, Raisman diplomatically declined.“I think he’s a little bit more of a partier than I am,” Raisman said. “I’m a little bit more mellow.”
