Ben Affleck halted on the red carpet to watch the Red Sox on a reporter’s phone
Even a Hollywood premiere can’t keep the Cambridge native from cheering on the Sox.
Being a movie star seems like a dream job. But if you’re Ben Affleck, one of the downsides of stardom is missing your favorite sports teams play and having to watch them lose while the cameras roll.Affleck was at the Hollywood red carpet premiere for his new film The Accountant when a reporter handed him a phone to watch the final outs of Monday night’s Red Sox-Indians game, which Cleveland won 4-3, ending Boston’s season.

“Is this live?” Affleck asked KTLA entertainment reporter Doug Kolk, before taking his phone and watching the game.
“I’m having a heart attack … this is agonizing,” Affleck said as he watched, according to USA Today. “I would much rather be watching the game, but this is a job.”
This isn’t the first time doing press for The Accountant has forced Affleck to miss a game. Earlier this month, the Cambridge native expressed disbelief when an interviewer told him that the Patriots were in the process of being shut out by the Buffalo Bills.
After Monday’s loss, Affleck was unhappy but not despondent, telling USA Today that the losses were easier to take now that the Sox had won the World Series a few times.
And with the hometown team out of the picture, Affleck is apparently pulling for another team that knows a thing or two about curses and postseason heartbreak, telling USA Today: “Now I can root for the Cubs.”
