When Joe Biden stopped by The Tonight Show on Thursday, he engaged in some of the standard shenanigans with Jimmy Fallon, eating an ice cream cone with the host in a callback to a famous photo of the vice president. But when the topic of Monday night’s presidential debate came up, Biden got serious.

“What amazes me about Donald Trump—he’s probably a decent guy—but it’s his lack of sensibilities,” Biden said.

Referring to Monday night’s debate, Biden criticized Trump for saying he was rooting for the housing market to fail (“That’s not business, that’s callous,” Biden said.), and saying that paying no taxes makes him “smart” (“What does that make the rest of us? Suckers?”).

“Can you think of any president, any president you’ve studied, read about, or knew who would say anything like that?” Biden asked the audience. “Name me one president who would do that. It angers me, quite frankly.”

“I didn’t know you could choose to not pay your taxes,” Fallon joked.

Biden concluded the segment by relating an anecdote from his father, Joe Biden Sr.

“My dad had an expression,” Biden said. “When someone would say, ‘Joe, I pay too much in taxes,’ he would say, ‘Look, it’s a small price to pay to live in this country.’”

“I mean, just pay your fair share, for God’s sake!” Biden said.
