Emma Stone will play Rosemary Kennedy in an upcoming biopic
Produced by the company behind Spotlight.
It seems as though Hollywood has examined the Kennedys from almost every angle, on both the small screen and the silver. Now, yet another story about a Kennedy sibling is forthcoming.
Emma Stone has signed on to play the lead in a movie titled Letters From Rosemary, Variety reports. It will follow Rose Marie (better known as “Rosemary”) Kennedy, the sister of President John F. Kennedy, New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy. Rosemary displayed signs of mental disability, and her family kept quiet about it. Her father arranged for her to receive one of the first ever prefrontal lobotomies in 1941 when she was 23. The procedure failed and left Rosemary incapacitated.
Letters From Rosemary will look at the lead-up to the lobotomy, according to Variety. Anonymous Content, the production company behind Spotlight, will produce the project.
A couple of other Kennedy projects have recently been announced: Matthew Perry has signed on to play Ted Kennedy in the follow-up to Reelz’s 2011 miniseries, The Kennedys. And Fifty Shades of Grey director Sam Taylor-Johnson is turning Ted Kennedy’s 1969 Chappaquiddick scandal into a movie.
