Vermont quartet Phish has a long history of performing in Massachusetts. The band will return to play the Xfinity Center (still known to many Phish faithful as Great Woods or the “Tweezer’’ Center) as part of the band’s summer tour.

Phish announced Friday that they will appear in Mansfield on Friday, July 8, sandwiched between shows in Portland, Maine (July 6) and Hartford, CT (July 9).

The band recently finished up a string of shows in Mexico, during which lead singer Trey Anastasio revealed that the band would be taking a bit of a break from touring. Combined with Friday’s news, this could simply refer to the rest of the winter and spring, or it could mean that the Mansfield show on July 8 could be the last local show that the band plays for some time.

An online ticket request period for the summer tour is currently underway on Phish’s website and will end Sunday, February 21. The public on-sale period begins Thursday, February 25.
