The Sinclair is having an “Emo’’ night

The monthly music event throws things way back.

This Wednesday at the Sinclair, Emo Night will add a few new elements to their monthly revival show.

Emo Night is the brainchild of DJ Texas Mike and local writer Luke O’Neil (full disclosure: O’Neil has contributed to Boston.com in the past). O’Neil and Texas Mike take over the Harvard Square venue and play the music you might have cried to back in the day.

The whole operation started about a year ago, when O’Neil and Texas Mike introduced Boston to the quicklygrowingnationaltrend of Emo Nights. They kicked things off at Brick and Mortar in Central Square, and when the event gained momentum, they moved to the Sinclair in Harvard Square.

“You don’t really get to hear that [kind of music] when you go out,’’ O’Neil said when explaining his decision to start hosting the shows. “You can hear it live, but it’s so rare to go and hear it played at a place where you get a drink.’’

Song requests are accepted, and all eras are represented. According to O’Neil, the event attracts a wide age range, from early 20’s up to late 30’s.

This week, Emo Night will expand upon its usual M.O. When O’Neil and Texas Mike do their thing at the Sinclair–in the venue, rather than the much-smaller bar–a few live acts will join them. One band will cover old emo anthems, while the other, a Weezer tribute band, will play Pinkerton in its entirety.

Also new to this iteration of Emo Night: a photo booth and music videos projected throughout performances.

Tickets for the event are $3, and can be purchased on Ticketmaster. Happy emoting.
