It’s official: Meghan Trainor sold one million copies of her debut album
It took her almost exactly one year.
Billboard-topping pop star and Nantucket native Meghan Trainor finished 2015 with quite a bit to show for– four singles from her debut album Title and a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. To put the icing on the cake, her album surpassed 1 million sold just before the start of the new year.
Billboard reports that according to Nielsen data, Title sold another 14,000 copies in the week ending December 31, boosting its total sales to 1.007 million.
Of course, Trainor’s success hasn’t come without its criticisms. Her controversial single “Dear Future Husband’’ has been criticized for its staunch heteronormativity, her comments on eating disorders have not jived well with fans and fellow stars alike, and she has even adopted Nashville as her new hometown (what was wrong with Nantucket, Meghan?).
Trainor currently has no tour dates scheduled, but is starting off 2016 celebrating the success of her latest single, “Like I’m Gonna Lose You,’’ featuring John Legend, which has been on the Billboard Top 10 singles chart for four straight weeks now.
