Massachusetts represents in DJ Earworm’s best-of-2015 mashup
Meghan Trainor and Rachel Platten are part of this year’s bunch.
2015 was a notable year in pop music, and one that saw hits from Massachusetts natives Meghan Trainor and Rachel Platten.
DJ Earworm, a San Francisco-based mash-up artist, has put together a year-end mix of the most popular tracks to hit the charts every year since 2007. Fittingly, Trainor’s “Lips Are Movin’’ and her appearance on John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You’’ joined Platten’s “Fight Song’’ on this year’s newly released mix, which is entitled “United State of Pop 2015: 50 Shades of Pop.’’

Trainor, a Nantucket native, has gained attention for injecting both a throwback groove and, some argue, throwback ideals into her signature brand of pop since her emergence in 2014. Platten, who hails from Newton, struck it big with 2015’s Wildfire, finding a niche in inspirational powerpop.
Trainor is currently nominated for Best Pop Act at the Boston Music Awards. (The Awards’ list of nominees is a good resource if you’re interested in discovering acts that regularly perform in Boston.)
