Acrobatic cats are coming to Arlington this weekend

The Amazing Acro-Cats visit us all the way from Chicago to perform at the Regent Theatre.

Rock Cats, the show-closing musical act of the Amazing Acro-Cats.

Are you a cat-lover? Do you have a soft-spot for pets that can do tricks? This is your weekend.

From Thursday to Sunday, The Amazing Acro-Cats will grace the stage at the Regent Theatre in Arlington for a performance that includes skateboards, bells, barrells, tightropes, and much more.

The troupe of domestic cats has been performing for a decade now, touring the country in a bus called the Catmobile and led by trainer Samantha Martin. Martin plays ringleader as cats of all shapes and sizes perform tricks. It all culminates in a musical performance from a band called Rock Cats:

Martin, an animal trainer turned performer, also uses the shows to advocate for clicker training.

“All cats can be trained,’’ she told The Guardian in May. “Some cats are more motivated than others to learn, though. They have different skill sets.’’

This type of training is a form of operant conditioning that rewards a pet with a treat for performing a behavior at the sound of a clicker.

“It’s just more of a fine tuning way of training,’’ Martin told the Reporter Herald. “It’s noise and treats. It triggers something in their brain, and they get it very quickly.’’

Weaving these lessons into a showcase of cat-tastic talent, The Amazing Acro-Cats experience can be educational and entertaining. Martin lends tips on ways that cat owners can become closer with their pets, all while dazzling with the skills she and her cats possess. At the very least, by the end, you will have seen a cat playing a cowbell.

Nope, we’re not kitten around!

The Amazing Acro-Cats will perform six shows from Thursday to Sunday at Arlington’s Regent Theatre. Tickets are available here.
