After receiving a five-minute standing ovation at Sundance this year, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is finally hitting theaters in Boston.

The critically-acclaimed coming-of-age-story stars Thomas Mann as Greg, an awkward high-schooler who forms an unlikely friendship with a cancer-stricken classmate named Rachel, played by Olivia Cooke. Ronald Cyler II joins the trio as Earl, Greg’s best friend who helps him make hilarious parodies of popular foreign films that cheer Rachel up as she goes through treatment.

We sat down with the cast, as well as writer Jesse Andrews and director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, to see what makes this film so special. Check it out in the video above.
