The Fallout 4 trailer shows a gloomy, post-apocalyptic Boston

The trailer for Fallout 4, one of the biggest video game releases in recent memory, hit YouTube this morning. And after previous apocalyptic imaginings of California, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Las Vegas, game creators Bethesda chose apocalyptic Boston as the setting for the seventh game in the Fallout series.

The results are, in a word, jaw-dropping.

And a dark version of Fenway Park.

An eagle-eyed Redditor noticed the inclusion of Scollay Square, an area of Boston that was torn down and rebuilt as Government Center in the 1960s, but apparently lives on in Fallout’s dystopian nuclear future.

And the USS Constitution has jetpacks now?

This looks like Bunker Hill and Bunker Hill Lodge.

And somehow the city’s public transportation is even worse.

Fallout 4 has no official release date yet, but Bethesda promised a full 20-30 minute demo of the gameplay at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on June 14.
