Oscar winner Ruth E. Carter, Rep. Joe Kennedy III to speak at Suffolk commencements
The last few days have brought big announcements for Carter.
Hot off her historic win at the 2019 Oscars, Suffolk University announced on Monday that Ruth E. Carter will serve as the College of Arts & Sciences’ commencement speaker this spring.The Springfield native became the first black costume designer to win the Best Costume Design Oscar on Sunday for her work on “Black Panther.”“This is for my 97-year-old mother watching in Massachusetts,” Carter said in her Academy Awards acceptance speech. The university also announced that U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III will speak at the Law School commencement, while Gene Lee, president and CEO of Darden Restaurants, will deliver the commencement for the Sawyer Business School, from which Lee earned his EMBA in 1996.All three commencements will take place on Sunday, May 19.
