8 joyously nerdy occurrences at the MIT commencement

To celebrate the graduation of over 2,800 students from MIT, the school’s graduates, proud parents, and famous Martians alike gathered near Killian Court.

The results were fantastic.

Geeky jokes were made, caps were decorated, and references to geek culture were dropped left and right.

Here were some of our favorite moments:

1. This graduate’s Bitcoin cap:

2. This commencement attendee, who hand-wrote equations during the ceremony:

3. This stellar sentiment from the First Year at MIT Twitter page:

4. These commencement-goers talking nerdy to each other:

(It’s a math thing.)

5. This Star Wars mention:

6. Even commencement speaker Matt Damon got in on the action:

7. He was also bequeathed an official MIT pirate certificate.

Way better than an honorary degree.

And nobody enjoys MIT’s nerdiness more than the students themselves. They wear the title with pride:
