Harvard accepted only 5.3% of applicants this year, a record number for the school.
In the end, McGaan chose the University of Michigan, a school closer to home in the Midwest and nearly as prestigious.

“I’m almost glad I didn’t get in, because I wouldn’t have gone anyway,” she told the Boston Globe.
