Mark Wahlberg is back in the Boston area filming a new movie co-produced by LeBron James.

Wahlberg was spotted over the weekend filming scenes on a basketball court in Lynn for “Weekend Warriors,” an upcoming film for Apple TV+ with a strong tie to the NBA.

Filmmakers returned to Lynn to resume production on Monday. Though Wahlberg wasn’t spotted that day, filming is expected to continue in the area through October, according to NBC Boston.

‘Weekend Warriors’: What to know

Directed by Stephen Chbosky (“Wonder”), “Weekend Warriors” is about a father and his son, who is on the autism spectrum, traveling around North America to watch every NBA team until the child finds his favorite one.

The film is an Americanized adaptation of the 2023 German film “Weekend Rebels,” in which the father and son visit all 56 teams in the top three English football divisions in order to determine the 10-year-old’s favorite soccer team. The German version is based on a true story, and is adapted from an autobiographical novel by Mirco and Jason von Juterczenka.

The film is being co-produced by SpringHill, the production company founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter in 2020. According to Deadline, James will be credited as a producer, while Carter will executive produce the project.

Along with Wahlberg in the lead role, “Weekend Warriors” also features Vera Farmiga (“The Departed”) and child actor Indie DesRoches, who also featured in Wahlberg’s 2022 film “Father Stu.”

What’s next for Mark Wahlberg?

You’ll be able to see Wahlberg next in “Play Dirty,” an action-thriller directed by Shane Black in which the Dorchester native plays Parker, the professional thief and protagonist of a popular series of novels by Donald Westlake.

“Play Dirty,” which co-stars LaKeith Stanfield, Rosa Salazar, Tony Shalhoub, and Keegan-Michael Key, will be released on Amazon Prime Video on October 1.

After that, Wahlberg will star in “The Family Plan 2,” the sequel to his 2023 Apple Films action-comedy in which Wahlberg played a used car salesman hiding his past as a government assassin from his suburban family.

Co-starring Michelle Monaghan and Kit Harrington (“Game of Thrones”), “The Family Plan 2” is slated for a 2026 release.
