After catching flak from locals for filming his “Blue Bloods” spinoff “Boston Blue” in Toronto instead of Boston, Donnie Wahlberg brought CBS camera crews to Boston Common on Monday to shoot scenes for his upcoming show.
The veteran actor was spotted alongside his co-stars Monday, with fans catching footage of Wahlberg chasing down a perp as cameras rolled.
Wahlberg made the rounds during his brief visit to Boston, attending a Red Sox game, snapping a photo with a Boston Duck Tours vehicle, and posting a selfie on Province Street with Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” playing in the background.
Wahlberg’s visit to Boston came after fans complained on Wahlberg’s Instagram about “Boston Blue” being primarily filmed in Toronto despite being set in Boston.
“Why not film in Boston?,” wrote one user on a video of Wahlberg filming in Toronto posted on July 29. “Come on, CBS, Boston is incredible and this show should be filmed there!”
“Be there in a week with cameras and crew,” Wahlberg replied.

“Boston Blue” will star Wahlberg as Det. Danny Reagan, the role he played for 14 seasons on “Blue Bloods.” Reagan has left his role in the NYPD and joined Boston PD, where he is paired with Det. Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the oldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.
Most of the announced cast for “Boston Blue” are members of the Silver family, including Ernie Hudson (“Ghostbusters”) as Lena’s grandfather, Maggie Lawson (“Psych”) as her step-sister, Gloria Reuben (“ER”) as her mother, and Marcus Scribner (“Black-ish”) as her younger brother. While the cast leans heavy toward the Silver clan, at least two members of the Reagan family will be making appearances on “Blue Bloods.” Mika Amonsen will be a series regular as Danny’s son, Sean, a BPD patrolman. Amonsen replaces Andrew Terraciano, who played Sean on “Blue Bloods.”
And Bridget Moynahan, who played Danny’s sister, Erin, on “Blue Bloods,” will make a guest appearance in the premiere episode of “Boston Blue.”
“Boston Blue” will premiere on CBS on Friday, Oct. 17 at 10 p.m., the same time slot previously occupied by “Blue Bloods.”
