What would you do if you owned an eight-bedroom, 10-bathroom beachfront estate situated on 5.23 acres in Rhode Island? If you’re Taylor Swift, the answer is to make your mansion even bigger.
Permits filed with the town of Westerly, Rhode Island show that Swift is planning $1.7 million worth of renovations to her $17.75 million Watch Hill home, which she purchased in 2013.
The newly minted billionaire’s planned renovations include a 16×24 addition, multiple new bathrooms, and a kitchen remodel.
Swift’s building permit was officially approved by the town of Westerly on Monday, though fans on social media posted videos showing that construction workers and a crane were already onsite over the weekend.

Swift has been generous with her Rhode Island home over the years, frequently hosting her A-list friends for a Fourth of July bash and other parties.
During a break in her Eras Tour this past August, Swift hosted a birthday party for actress pal Blake Lively. Guests included Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, his brother Jason, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Mahomes’ wife Brittany, Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds, and actor Bradley Cooper.
In 2023, Swift let Cooper and girlfriend Gigi Hadid stay there to “get to know each other,” per Page Six.
Hadid, Lively, and Reynolds all attended Swift’s 2016 Fourth of July bash at the mansion as well. Others photographed at Swift’s home over the years include Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, and the Haim sisters.
Swift has spoken glowingly about the Watch Hill mansion, and even made the home — and its former owner — the subject of a song on her 2020 album “Folklore.”
Swift’s song “The Last Great American Dynasty” tells the tale of Rebekah Harkness, a widowed socialite who threw loud parties and rolled with a “squad” of high society types known as the “b**** pack.”
“She was a woman who was very, very talked about, and everything she did was scandalous,” Swift told Rolling Stone in a 2020 interview. “I found a connection in that.”
