Production on Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s new movie “The Drama” officially kicked off in Boston, fueling an uptick in film crews and a deluge of celebrity sightings.
On Thursday, crews for A24 took over a large portion of downtown Boston near the Bank of America building, parking along swaths of High Street, Federal Street, and Franklin Street.
As cars being held by police on Summer Street honked impatiently, Pattinson filmed a scene outside of the Bank of America building across from South Station.
On Wednesday, students at Phillips Academy in Andover posted videos on Instagram and TikTok of Zendaya and Pattinson arriving and departing set.
Film crews transformed the private school’s Addison Art Gallery into the fictional “Cambridge Art Museum,” where Pattinson’s character in the film works, according to a source familiar with the production.

The decorations included a banner for real-life artist Eirik Sæther’s gallery “Greetings From.” Sæther previously collaborated with “The Drama” director (and fellow Norwegian) Kristoffer Borgli, starring in Borgli’s 2022 film “Sick of Myself.”
The source confirmed that filming would continue in Boston and Cambridge throughout the fall, and would also visit Ipswich before wrapping in December.
Beyond being spotted on set, Zendaya also enjoyed a bite on the patio at the Beacon Hill Tatte on Tuesday. She previously visited the cafe’s Back Bay location with boyfriend Tom Holland when she was shooting the Boston-filmed tennis drama “Challengers” in 2022.

Along with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, “The Drama” is set to star Mamoudou Athie (“Elemental”) and singer/actress Alana Haim (“Licorice Pizza”). (A Boston.com reporter spotted Haim and Athie at the Somerville Theatre prior to filming in October.)
Directed by Borgli (“Dream Scenario”), “The Drama” is produced by Ari Aster, who helped shape A24’s identity with horror hits like “Midsommar” and “Hereditary.”
Local film workers began staffing up on the project this summer, and location scouts began posting signs in the Back Bay and Charlestown in early September during pre-production.
Filming for “The Drama” is set to take place throughout the fall, wrapping up sometime in December.
The plot of “The Drama” concerns a couple, played by Zendaya and Pattinson, who must reckon with events from their past before they get married.
No release date has been set for “The Drama,” but barring delays in post-production, a 2025 release date seems likely.
