Country music star Zach Bryan and Barstool Sports personality Brianna LaPaglia (aka Brianna Chickenfry) have ended their relationship, and the Boston native says she was “blindsided” by how the breakup has played out on social media.
Bryan posted on his Instagram story Tuesday that the couple’s relationship was over.
“Brianna and me have broken up with each other and I respect and love her with every ounce of my heart,” Bryan wrote. “She has loved me unconditionally for a very long time and for that I’ll always thank her.”
A short time later, LaPaglia posted her own Instagram story, saying she was “blindsided” by Bryan’s announcement.
“Hey guys I’m feeling really blindsided right now,” LaPaglia wrote. “Gonna hop off social media for a while and attempt to heal privately, when I’m ready I’ll be back and ready to talk.”
Less than an hour after announcing that she needed time off of social media to heal privately, LaPaglia posted a four-minute YouTube video further discussing the breakup.
“I just woke up to Zach posting on his Instagram that we broke up,” LaPaglia said. “I had no idea that post was going up. He didn’t text me, he didn’t call me.”
LaPaglia went on to say that the couple broke up on Monday, and that her hopes of healing privately were ruined by Bryan sharing the news with the world.
“How can you give every ounce of yourself to someone and then be discarded in a few days?” LaPaglia said. “It’s really, really heartbreaking.”
Bryan and LaPaglia’s breakup caps a whirlwind relationship for the pair.
LaPaglia — who started hosting her own podcast for Barstool Sports in 2020 — first shared that she and Bryan were “hanging out” in July 2023, less than two months after Bryan ended his previous relationship.
By September 2023, the pair had purchased a dog, a yellow lab named Boston. As Bryan criscrossed the country on his “Quittin Time” tour, LaPaglia was often there in support.
When Bryan visited Gillette Stadium for a June 26 concert, he and LaPaglia were able to rest and relax post-show at a $7.5 million Duxbury home purchased by Bryan in April.
Before Bryan and LaPaglia announced their breakup, social media speculation swirled about their relationship being on the rocks.
Earlier in the week, screenshots of a dating profile on the celebrity dating app Raya allegedly belonging to Bryan began popping up on Reddit and on TikTok.
Bryan didn’t directly address the Raya profile in his story, instead writing that he was “not perfect,” and that he had gone through an “incredibly hard year” while struggling with “some pretty severe things.”
“With everything I am and to anyone I let down, I am sorry,” Bryan wrote. “I try my best in everything. I failed people that love me and mostly myself.”
For his part, Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy didn’t cut Bryan any slack when addressing the breakup, posting Taylor Swift’s song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” in dedication to LaPaglia on social media.
