Chris Pratt rolls out his nine essential rules for life at the MTV Movie Awards
God, life advice, and bathroom humor all in one speech? Only Chris Pratt could pull that off.
The “Jurassic World’’ actor accepted the Generation Award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards Monday night, and he used the opportunity to offer the next generation nine essential rules to live by.
The rules offered had the mix of silliness and sincerity that we’ve come to expect from the actor, who’s just at home playing the macho action star as he is the bumbling comic relief. He kicked off his list with the all-important tidbit, “Breathe. If you don’t, you’ll suffocate,’’ before moving on to the more serious: “You have a soul. Be careful with it.’’
But the “Guardians of the Galaxy’’ star really got the crowd cheering with his always-relevant third rule, “Don’t be a turd.’’

Between tangents about putting dog medicine in hamburger meat and methods for using the bathroom at parties, Pratt also served more potent rules. “God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you,’’ he said, and “Learn to pray. It’s easy and it’s so good for your soul.’’
He capped off his speech, which has more than one million views on Twitter as of Wednesday morning, on an emotional and subtly political note: “Nobody is perfect . . . But there is a powerful force that designed you that way, and if you’re willing to accept that, you will have grace, and grace is a gift. And like the freedom we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for with somebody else’s blood. Do not forget it. Don’t take it for granted.’’
Pratt accepted the award from “Jurassic World’’ co-star Bryce Dallas Howard and former “Parks and Recreation’’ co-star Aubrey Plaza. He also took the time to thank his parents, brother, sister, and 5-year-old son, Jack.
