John Cena and Nicole “Nikki” Bella called off their engagement in April. Now Cena says he wants to get back together and start a family.

“I still love Nicole,” Cena said during a Monday morning appearance on the “Today” show with co-hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. “I still would love to marry Nicole. I still would love to have a family with Nicole.”

The West Newbury native has fulfilled the wishes of more children through the Make-a-Wish Foundation than any other celebrity, and he hosted the 2017 and 2018 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. However, starting a family of his own has been a sticking point for him in the past.

“I don’t want to get married and I don’t want to have kids, and you do want to get married and you do want to have kids,” Cena told Bella on the reality show “Total Divas” in a bonus clip from a 2014 episode. “I feel like there’s a time bomb over my head.”

But on “Today,” Cena said things are different now.

“If you look at me five years ago: stubborn, selfish, self-focused, life had always been about me,” Cena said when Kotb asked about why he was now interested in starting a family. “And then slowly over time this woman waltzes in and just steals my heart. And whether I wanna realize it or not, she becomes my number one. So I’m willing to go back on all of these things that I say, and a lot of them I would hang onto just [out] of stubbornness. ‘I won’t have kids.’ And it took a very strong look in the mirror for me to be like, ‘Why? This person is my number one and it’s something that’s very valuable to her. Of course we can do this, and I think it would be wonderful.'”
